Community Giving and Outreach

Foss National is more than a business: we are caring, supportive, giving participants in our communities. We take our corporate social responsibilities seriously, and we strive to give back to the people and communities that have been part of our success.

We encourage our people to volunteer their time with charitable organizations and to help us find worthy charities to support. Staff members have ridden in the annual Becel Heart & Stroke Ride for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. We have held a Cupcake Day for the SPCA and humane societies, and our President bought McHappy Day lunches for our staff to support Ronald McDonald House and other charities.

Camp Oochigeas, for kids with cancer

One of our principal charities is Camp Oochigeas, an Ontario camp for kids with, and affected by, cancer. “Camp Ooch” provides unique opportunities for growth through challenging, fun, enriching and magical experiences.

Often referred to as the social cure to cancer, Ooch is a place where kids with and affected by childhood cancer have the chance to just be kids. Ooch provides free programming to over 1,500 kids and families year-round at hospital-based programs, and at the Overnight Camp at Ooch Muskoka. This is the only overnight camp in Canada to offer IV chemotherapy and blood transfusions.

The challenge Camp Ooch faces is that they do not receive any government or hospital funding; they are entirely dependent on support from foundations, donors and volunteers. At no cost to the children and their families, every single donation made has a drastic impact on a child’s life.

This is why we partnered with Erace Cancer, to help raise funds and awareness for this special program. By supporting this camp we hope that more children affected by childhood cancer can have the opportunity to be a kid again, and experience the magic of Ooch.

The Foss National cycling team – Team Members: Jeff Hartley, President; Basil Marcus, Commercial Director; and Ryan Hartley, Short-Term Leasing Specialist – will be participating in multiple cycling events this year, to help raise awareness for camp Ooch. If you see us, or anyone else wearing the Erace Cancer jersey, please come and say 'hi'!

Other charities that we support or have supported include:

  • The Toronto Star Santa Claus Fund
  • Hope for Children Foundation
