Safe Lane Changes

Cliquez ici pour lire cet article en français

Have you ever seen a driver weaving in and out of lanes without using his/her turn signal?  This driver presents danger and may end up causing a collision.  To avoid making any unsafe lane changes a list of guidelines appears below.

  • Ensure your mirrors are always clean and properly adjusted
  • Check the road ahead before you consider changing lanes
  • Glance at your rearview mirror to ensure that the driver behind you doesn’t have his/her turn signal on to change lanes
  • Watch for vehicles that may move into your blind spot
  • Always let other drivers know your intentions by using your turn signal
  • Change lanes only when you know it is safe to do so
  • Make sure to cancel your turn signal after the lane change is complete
  • Do not make any lane changes at intersections
  • Be extra careful when changing lanes on snowy and wet roads.
